Lugano Sementi Leonardo srl in Tortona (Alessandria) is a seed company founded in the Fifties. We have been committed to the development and research of new varieties of rice suitable for cultivation in all the European rice-growing areas, in Russia and in Turkey.

The company features an important Research and Development division based on a number of trial plots on an area covering 10 Ha near Vercelli. The plots are used to experiment the growing, selection and multiplication of new variety of seeds.

In Uruguay the winter nursery, and the fitotron growth chamber – a controlled photoperiod and thermoperiod greenhouse – assembled at the our new research station in Vinzaglio (NO), to accelerate the process of varietal stability to produce new cultivars and reduce the average timing (8/10 years) to obtain 3 generations per year.
